5 day auction—
This sweet,
8” Betsy Mc Call has been loved in the past and displays a combination of the
passage of time and playwear from her loving owner years ago. Betsy is hoping that she will prove to be an
inexpensive model for one of the many Betsy outfits that you have collected, or
perhaps as a playmate for your child or grandchild. Please read the complete description BEFORE
you bid. The advanced
Betsy collector will find challenge
in
perfecting the doll or using the best parts of her to fix others. This is a vintage
Betsy McCall repaired into a complete doll with all original parts.
You will find that I am
very picky in my description.
I have discovered that monitors may show pictures differently than
those posted from the Seller's computer. Therefore, you can rely on the
description to be a very good indication of the condition of this Betsy and use
the pictures as a support, realizing that the coloring of this doll may be
different than you see on your monitor.
Betsy’s positive points:
-- smooth and thick, BLOND hair (after all, the Betsy paper doll had brunette hair!)
rooted into a rubber wig base with NO BALD SPOTS
-- soft
face coloring with NO CHEEK RUBS (read note about the blush below)
--
lovely BLUE-GRAY eyes with perfect upper lashes
-- eyes
open and close on their own and will even FLUTTER at you with a little shake.
-- arms
have a band made from rubber tubing that was cut the same size as the original,
arms not loose and will hold poses nicely
-- head
still has its ORIGINAL RUBBER BAND, but is a little loose. It will still hold some poses and is not too
floppy.
--
CROTCH SEAM HAS NOT OPENED (read below about a shoulder seam)
-- knees
bend with ease and hold a pose well
-- PINKY,
clean,
lighter
EVEN SKIN TONE overall—NOTE: Time has probably lightened her overall color
some, but her ‘skin’ has not turned yellow or turned a dark beige.
-- NO
STAINS
--
McCall mark in a circle on her back
-- I
have not forced her to sit. However, a
very helpful Betsy collector has shared a YouTube video with me that shows how
to safely make your Betsy doll sit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DF5FM0rHaM
-- Her
legs are stable enough to allow her to stand with careful positioning of her
arms and legs (a little swingy as are most).
She will still need a stand for safe display.
Not-so-positive points:
(I am
being very, very nit-picky about things that some other Sellers wouldn't have
bothered listing and which may have gone unnoticed without my mentioning
them. I do not believe that they take
from her loveliness, nor her collect ability.
Some issues are very minor and some may be important to you)
--
rubber skull cap is in vintage condition, understandable, considering the
rubber is over 56 years old—there are small tears/cracks and chips around the
edge of the skullcap—all are hidden by her hair
-- This
Betsy’s
cheek blush has changed from a
pink color to an orangey color
.
-- left
shoulder seam is narrowly open (about 3/8” long)
--
One knee has a very bad crack and flare
(see close-up picture)—other knee is perfect.
-- The
lower legs have a few very thin lines, which is common—hey! I’m over 60 also
and Betsy’s legs look much better than mine!
